Life Story for Dellot "Dale" Shields

Dellot Allen “Dale” Shields, 58, of Bridgeport, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2016, in the United Hospital Center following a short battle with cancer. He was born in Cleveland, OH on June 8, 1957, a son of Nancy E. Fowler, who survives in Bridgeport, and the late Benjamin F. Fowler.
He is survived by his loving wife, Melinda (Wageman) Shields, whom he married on October 2, 1976.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is also survived by his son, Jason Allen Shields and his wife Claudia of Wallace; and his daughter, Shannon Marie Harvey and her husband Doug of Bridgeport; and four grandchildren, Jada, Grayson, and Abigail Shields, and Lane Harvey. Three sisters, Laurel Cokeley and her husband Mike, Spelter; Deloris Slay and her husband Mitch, Philippi; Karen Compton and her husband Jerry, Philippi, three brothers Richard Fowler and his wife Mary Ann, Clarksburg; Luke Fowler and his wife Jan, Salem; Tim Fowler, Clarksburg; four brothers-in-law, Albert J. Wageman, Jr., and his wife Laverene of Huntington, Duane W. Wageman and his wife Patti of Butler, KY, Matthew L. Wageman and his wife Lisa of Lost Creek, Darrell M. Wageman and his wife Rebecca of Meadowbrook; and several nieces and nephews complete his family.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister and her husband, Beverly and Everett Palmer.
Dale was a graduate of Bridgeport High School Class of 1976. He worked for the City of Bridgeport for 37 years, retiring in September 2013 as Superintendent of Public Works.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, collecting antiques, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of Men’s Auxiliary of VFW Post 573, Clarksburg.
He took much pride in his grandchildren, was a friend to many, and never knew a stranger. His greatest times were shared in laughter with those he knew and loved.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 2 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday with Reverend Robert Perine presiding. Interment will follow in Bridgeport Cemetery.
