Back Send condolences to the Carbone Family
James Carbone, 95, of Bridgeport, West Virginia passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2012, at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital after a short illness. Jim was born on April 14, 1916, in Fairmont, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Maria Gioelli Carbone and Giovanni Carbone.
He is survived by his former wife and friend, Betty Carbone; his son, Mark W. Carbone and wife Ellen Cappellanti of Charleston, West Virginia; his daughter Diana M. McCauley and Robin McCauley of Bridgeport; four grandsons, Stephen Carbone and his fiancé Erica Story of Charles Town, West Virginia; Justin McCauley of Vienna, Austria; Jamie Carbone of Morgantown, West Virginia; and, Michael Carbone of Charleston, West Virginia.
He is also survived by his sister-in-laws, Freda Reed, her husband Charlie Reed; Anna Carbone and Marlene Shuman; brother-in-law Danny Shuman and, several nieces and nephews, including Mary Ann Ankrom and John Carbone. He was predeceased by his sister, Marge Lewandowski, and brothers Frank Carbone and Patsy Carbone.
Jim served his country in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He served in the 361st Infantry in North Africa and Italy during World War II and the 7th Calvary in Korea. He was awarded two Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars and the Combat Infantry Badge.
He was the owner of Tater Junction at the Meadowbrook Mall after retiring from the United States Postal Service where he was Postmaster at several locations with the last being at Hepzibah, West Virginia. He was a lifetime member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 573. In his younger years, he was an excellent bowler participating in several tournaments along the East Coast. He loved sports, especially the University of Notre Dame football. He was a 55-year member of All Saints Catholic Church in Bridgeport.

Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 South Virginia Ave., Bridgeport, West Virginia, on Thursday, January 19, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 20, at the All Saints Catholic Church, 317 East Main Street, Bridgeport, West Virginia at 11:00 a.m. with Father Harry Cramer as Celebrant. Interment will be at the Bridgeport Cemetery, Bridgeport .
