Back Send condolences to the Morgan Family
Clara Jo Morgan, West Olive Street, Bridgeport, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, December 26, 2010. She was born March 9, 1934, on Davy’s Run, Marion County, a daughter of the late Clyde Clarence and Jessie Annis Romine Snoderly.
She is survived by her husband, John “Bud” Morgan, whom she married on October 31, 1952.
Also surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, J. Michael and Linda Morgan, Huntsville, Alabama; Edward and Debbie Morgan, Auburn, IN; and Bruce and Donna Morgan, Meadville, PA. Seven grandchildren, Ben Morgan, Lubbock, TX; Jonathan Morgan, Birmingham, Alabama; Joe Morgan, Columbia, Missouri; Megan Morgan, Auburn, Indiana; Jordan Morgan and his wife Sarah, Fairfax, Virginia; Brandon Morgan and Stephanie Jo Morgan, Meadville, PA, complete her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Keith Morgan; three sisters, Jo Ann Snoderly, Mary V. Lepley, and Doris Ann Sheets; and a brother, Rex Snoderly.
Jo was a graduate of Farmington High School and a retired Administrative Assistant at Simpson Creek Baptist Church with sixteen years of service. She was a devout Christian and Baptist by faith. She held several local, state, and national offices within the American Baptist Church structure, as well as serving on the board of the local and state American Baptist Women’s Ministries. She also held three four-year terms on the board of the WV American Baptist Convention and one four-year term on the board of the national American Baptist Churches USA, Educational Ministries, Business and Finance. For many years Mrs. Morgan served as State Secretary to the West Virginia Baptist Historical Society. She was also keenly knowledgeable of the history of the Simpson Creek Baptist Church, which was organized in 1770, and she worked diligently in preserving artifacts and history of the church.
Jo was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed writing poetry and children’s stories for her grandchildren, and made a loving home for her family.
Memorial contributions in Jo’s memory can be made to Simpson Creek Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 231 W. Philadelphia Avenue, Bridgeport, WV.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Tuesday from 2-8 pm. Mrs. Morgan will lie in state at Simpson Creek Baptist Church, 231 W. Philadelphia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Wednesday, December 29, 2010, from 10 – 11 a.m., where services will be held at 11 am with Dr. C. Michael Hopkins, Dr. James E. Lutz, and Dr. Dale Waters presiding. Interment will follow in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Farmington.
