Back Send condolences to the Gibson Family

Vera Gibson, 85, of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 18, 2010, at the Heritage Nursing Home in Bridgeport. This is a beautiful place to prepare for the journey to meet our Lord, where you are cared for by those who show love, concern and compassion while our loved one was waiting at the door to cross. Located in very homely surroundings with a large porch, with rocking chairs, birds singing God’s praises and you feel as though God is so near you can reach out and touch His hand. What a blessing this place has been for all of us. A special “Thank you” goes to the staff of The Heritage and People’s Hospice for their loving care and concern during her extended illness.
Vera was born in Cassity, WV on May 1, 1925, the daughter of the late Henry Evan Wilson and Murrel Rowan Wilson. She is survived by a daughter Mary Ann Gibson Myers and her husband Donald Myers of Bridgeport, whom she lived with 20 years before going to the nursing home.
She is also survived by two grandchildren, “Marsha” and Dennis, Salt Lake City, Utah; and “Rodney” and Melinda, Fairmont; seven great-grandchildren, Natasha Fleming-McDaniel, Grafton; Zackery Fleming, Flemington; Austin, Ethan and Kayli Myers, Clarksburg; Nevaeh and Laiten Myers, Fairmont; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett “Scotty” Gibson, whom she married on November 11, 1944, and also two children, Eva and infant son Johnnie, who were twins.
In addition to her parents, husband, and two children she was preceded in death by one brother, John Wilson, Spokane, WA; and one sister, Virginia Leaver, Wooster, OH.
Vera was a member of Long Run Fellowship Church, Simpson, where she cherished the love of her Lord and the fellowship of His people. Vera was a Christian who shared a strong bond with our Lord until her last day on earth.
Her earlier life was filled with the love of working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, crocheting and quilting which filled her days with joy.
Vera was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Monday from 12 – 8 pm, and on Tuesday from 10 am – 1 pm. Services will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, December 21, 2010, with Pastor George Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in the Simpson Cemetery at the Union Baptist Church, Simpson.

Back Words of Comfort
| Tue, Dec 21, 2010 |
Dear family, Just wanted to let you know that our hearts and thoughts are with you in your time of sorrow. I am just glad that I got to meet Vera and her family back in August, 1996 and I felt at home there like I was family, too. I just wish we could have found her and her brother, John, before their sister, Virginia, passed away. But they are all together again. God bless and comfort all of you at this time of loss. Ernest and Marilyn Eagle (Loretta Leaver's sister)
