Back Send condolences to the Flanigan Family
Robert A. Flanigan, 76, of Gregory Run Road, Clarksburg, passed away Sunday, August 22, 2010. He was born March 4, 1934, a son of the late Alvin L. and Otalene McDonald Flanigan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Ruth Ash Flanigan, whom he married September 25, 1954.
Also surviving are his son, Robert G. Flanigan and his wife Christine of Gregory Run Road; 3 grandsons, D. Nicholas Flanigan and his wife Stephanie, Andrew L. Flanigan and his fiancée Erica Smith., and Ethan A. Flanigan, all of Gregory Run Road; one brother, Donald E. Flanigan and his wife Marjorie of Ravenswood; a sister-in-law, Helen Heater of Meadland Road; and several nieces and nephews.
Robert graduated from Victory High School, Class of 1953 and served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958.
Robert worked as a mould maker for Hazel Atlas Glass Company where he was well known for his meticulous work. He was a member of the Glass Workers Union for 35 years. He then became an independent contractor primarily working with local natural gas companies.
Robert was a 50 year member of A.F. & A.M., Clarksburg Lodge # 155 and was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.
He greatly enjoyed carpentry and working with his backhoe. He also enjoyed hunting and taking care of his farm and his cats and dogs.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, where services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, August 26, 2010, with Reverend Etheldean Yanero presiding. Interment will follow in Sardis Cemetery.
