Back Send condolences to the Gerrard Family
Mary Aliene Gerrard, 93, of Clarksburg, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday June 12, 2010 at United Hospital Center. She was born March 20, 1917 up Catfish Hollow in Sardis, a daughter of the late Eli Moore and Dora Swiger Moore.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Dolan Gerrard, whom she married on December 23, 1935 and who passed away in 1977.
She is survived by one son, Leonard Wayne and his wife Fay of Sardis and one daughter Linda Posey and her husband Charles Robert “Bob” of Warren, OH; five grandchildren, Loretta Compton and her husband Jonathan of Clarksburg, Carol Ann Posey of Columbus, OH, David Gerrard of Sardis, Sheila Posey of Clarksville, TN, and Kevin Posey and his wife Maggie of Columbus, OH; two great grand children, Shereen and Abigail Compton; several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Gerrard was the last surviving member of her family and in addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Moore and Robert Moore and one infant sister, Virginia Moore; and one grand daughter, Stacie Rena Posey.
Mrs. Gerrard was a homemaker who was a Baptist by faith. She was a member of the Sardis CEO’S and Senior Citizens. She enjoyed traveling to various destinations with the senior citizens tours and she was an avid reader. She spent many hours knotting and quilting quilts for her loved ones. In her final days the family sincerely appreciated the help and services of Home Health Provider Becky Downs and Hospice, especially Meridith and Mary.
Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport on Tuesday June 15, 2010 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 1:00 pm with Reverend Gary Layfield presiding. Burial will be in Sardis Cemtery, Sardis.
