Billy Gene Harper, 83, of Bridgeport, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2010 at his residence. He was born October 3, 1926 in Texarkana, AR a son of the late Pat and Pauline Waddell Harper.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Harper. In November Bill and Joyce would have been married for 60 years.
He is also survived by two daughters, Karyl Hayre and her husband John of Greenville, TX, Ruth Taylor and her husband Todd of W. Richland, WA; three sons, Stephen Harper and his wife Donna of Colorado Springs, CO, Brian Harper and his wife Seanne of Columbus, OH, and Eric Harper and his wife Davey of Houston, TX; fourteen grandchildren, Valerie McClendon and her husband Cory, Caleb Hayre and his wife Amanda, Jesse Hayre and his wife Kaci, David Harper and his wife Natalie, John Harper, Chris Harper and his wife Jamie, Dana Harper, Allison Harper, Emily Taylor, Sarah Taylor, Nathan Taylor, Austin Harper, Logan Harper, and Chloe Harper; four great grandchildren, Chloe McClendon, Emma McClendon, Sophia Harper, and Gabriel Harper; and one sister-in-law Sue Harper.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson Josiah Hayre and a brother, Donald Harper.
Mr. Harper was a member of the Freedom Southern Baptist Church in Nutter Fort. He was also a Veteran of the United States Army Air Force having proudly served during WWII. Upon his retirement from Dow Chemical Company in Freeport, TX, Bill and his wife were volunteer missionaries for eleven years in Colorado, Kenya and West Virginia.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6–8 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Freedom Southern Baptist Church, 107 Illinois Avenue, Nutter Fort. Mr. Harper will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the West Virginia National Cemetery, Pruntytown.
