Ralph D. Young, 89, of Bridgeport, formerly of Mannington, passed away Friday April 16, 2010 at United Hospital Center.  He was born September 13, 1920 in St. Joseph, WV, a son of the late Friend S. Young and Ota Belle Holmes Young.  He was the last surviving member of his original family.   

He was preceded in death by his dear wife of 67 years, Martha L. Witschey Young who passed away on March 2, 2008.                                                              

He is survived by three sons, David M. Young of Lansing, MI, James R. Young of Marion, OH and Joseph M. Young of Jacksonville, FL; one daughter Mary Martha Young of San Francisco, CA.; and two grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents and wife he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd S. Young and Ray A. Young, and one sister, Fay A. Robinson. 

He graduated from Moundsville High School.  He served during WW II in the US Navy aboard the Light Cruiser USS Phoenix in the South Pacific.  He retired from Consolidated Gas Supply Corp in 1982 with 36 years of service. 

At the request of the deceased there will be no visitation and he will be cremated and his ashes will be buried with his wife at West Virginia National Cemetery, Pruntytown.

A Celebration of his life will be conducted at a later time by his children and held at the Meadows at Maplewood Senior Living for the staff and residents of this wonderful community where he was loved and appreciated by all.

Dear Young Family,   I’m so sorry to hear about Ralph. I love both him and Martha so much and made sure to see them each time I came back to WV.  If possible, I’d like to attend whatever celebration you have for him, when you have it.     I’m thinking about all of you.
