Back Send condolences to the Hinzman Family

Norval “Nick” Jay Hinzman, 80, of Bridgeport passed away on Friday April 2, 2010 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born October 12, 1929 in Berlin, WV a son of the late Roy Hinzman and Chaffie Warner Hinzman.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janith Fulks Hinzman whom he married on April 8, 1957.
He is also survived by one son Michael Scott Hinzman of Bridgeport; one daughter Lori Ann Hinzman of Dover, FL; one grandson Nicholas Michael Hinzman of Jane Lew; one step granddaughter Kristina Lynn Shaver and her husband Randy of Jane Lew; two step great grandchildren, Jared and Ian Shaver; six brothers and sisters, Hayward Hinzman and his wife Emelie of Lewisburg, Maxine Smith of Greenbelt, MD, Thomas Hinzman of Clarksburg, twin brother Orval Ray Hinzman and his wife Jean of Buckhannon, John B. Hinzman and his wife Joan of Weston; and Betty Cottrill and her husband James of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; one sister-in-law Louis Taylor of Fort Myers, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Taylor.
Nick was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War in the First Infantry Division, Big Red One. He was employed as a Barber in Springfield, VA and then moved back to West Virginia where he was a manager of Fulks Sporting Goods in Nutter Fort. After he retired from there he then worked at Ace Hardware until his retirement and then came back out of retirement to work there again two days a week. Nick was a member of the Bridgeport United Methodist Church and also a member of the Masonic Lodge, which he joined while living in Springfield, Va and then transferred his membership to #155 Clarksburg. He was also a member of the Nemisis Shriners in Parkersburg. Nick was an avid sports fan and while he was in high school where he and his brothers, Orval and John were known as the brothers Hinzman and had the respect of the their team mates as well as the competitors. He also played football for the 3rd regimen while he was in the service. He was also an avid Mountaineer fan, following the WVU football and basketball teams whenever they played.
The family would also like to give a very special thank you to Tender Loving Care and to the Bridgeport United Methodist Church for their care and compassion.
Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport on Monday April 5, 2010 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 1:00 pm with Reverend Dale Waters presiding. Interment will be in the Weston Masonic Cemetery, Weston.
