Howard “Smokey” Wilson, 88, of Katy Lick Road, Rt. 4, Clarksburg, went to be with the Lord Thursday, February 4, 2010, in the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center.  He was born November 15, 1921, in Ritchie County, a son of the late George Amos Wilson and Bessie Britton Wilson Jefferies.   

On September 18, 1943, he married Edna L. Jones Wilson, who preceded him in death on May 30, 2007.  

He is survived by four children, Glenda Wilson of Katy Lick Road, Clarksburg; Larry Wilson and his wife Laura of Lost Creek; Bobby Wilson and his wife Susan of Katy Lick Road, Clarksburg; and Sandra Stire and her husband “Butch” of Worthington; three grandchildren, Jill Davis of Bridgeport; Bobby Wilson, Jr. and his wife Tiffany of Bridgeport; and Chad Wilson and his wife Shawna of Shinnston; one great-granddaughter, Haley Wilson; and four great-grandsons, Austin Davis, Tyler, Duncan and Connor Wilson. A brother, Thomas Wilson, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews complete his family. 

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Dorothy Huntsman, Ida Huggins, Wilma Turrill, Martha Jones, and Dosia Wilson.

 Smokey was a diesel mechanic with LaRosa Fuel, and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was also a veteran of the United States Army having served during WWII in a Tank Battalion in France and Germany.  He loved the outdoors and sitting on his front porch in the summer. 

The family would also like to give a special thanks to People’s Hospice and the 6th floor of the Veteran’s Hospital for the care provided. 

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Monday from 4-8 pm, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2010, with Reverend Richard Wilson presiding.  Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
