Back Send condolences to the Huffman Family

Evelyn Shock Huffman, 100, formerly of Glen Falls and North View, passed away Thursday morning, December 17, 2009, surrounded by her family. She was born in Washington, PA, on April 7, 1909, a daughter of the late Peter and Anna Tipper Shock.
On August 11, 1930, she married Ernest M. Huffman, who preceded her in death on June 23, 1985.
She is survived by three daughters, Anna Marie Swisher of Beverly; Cora Jean Davis and her husband Gary of Clarksburg; Carolyn Sue Gola and her husband Frank “Shorty” of Elkins; two sons, Oliver Lee Huffman and his wife Jeannie of Clarksburg; and Ernest Edward Huffman and his wife Betty of West Milford; 13 grandchildren, Brenda Jackson, Linda Jones, Rhea Weese, Elizabeth Lyn Rose, Don Huffman, Ron Huffman, Wayne Huffman, Vicki H. Matthews, Deane LaAsmar, Gregory Davis, Jeanna L. Spears, Denise Wallace and Donna Smith; 25 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Hall and Helen Hoover, both of Charleston; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, James Swisher, and seven brothers and sisters.
Evelyn’s family and friends were her greatest joy. She was a loving mother to her children and grandchildren. She was a longtime active member of the North View United Methodist Church and she loved her church family. She was a member of the Christian Women United, United Methodist Women, Southern State FHA and Extension Homemakers, to which she belonged for more than 65 years.
She was a very loving person and will be missed by her family, friends and the lives she touched.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Friday from 4 – 8 pm, where services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, December 19, 2009, with Reverends David Fisher, Kenny Kendall, and Robert Lowther presiding. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
