Evelyn Marie Scritchfield, 85, of Shinnston, passed away on Wednesday October 21, 2009 at Pierpont Nursing Home in Fairmont.                                                                                    She was born March 21, 1924 in Helen’s Run, WV a daughter of the late Jonathon Johnson and Clare Soles Johnson. 

She is survived by three sons, John Douglas Scritchfield and his wife Barbara, George Allen Scritchfield and his wife Susan all of Boothesville, and Rodney Wayne Scritchfield of Mechanicstown, OH; seven grandchildren, James Scritchfield of Baltimore, MD, JD and Debbie Scritchfield of Ravenswood, Kirk and Liddy Scritchfield of Beaumont, TX, Mike and Michelle Scritchfield of Morgantown, Andy and Becky Scritchfield of Washington, DC, Katy Scritchfield of Fairmont and Alan and Christina Scritchfield of Uniontow, PA; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a daughter-in-law Francis Scritchfield of Baltimore, MD. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Douglas Franklin Scritchfield who passed away on August 10, 1971.  In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by one son, James Franklin Scritchfield.  She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Spencer, Charles, Marshall, and Jasper Johnson; two sisters, Sarah Gorbey and Pearl Martin. 

Mrs. Scritchfield was a member of Boothesville United Methodist Church and a member of the choir for 28 years.  She also was a member of the Marion and Taylor County Senior Citizens organization.   

Family and friends may be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport on Thursday October 22, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-8pm.  Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am.  Interment will be in Claremont Cemetery, Boothesville.

I am so sorry for your loss of a very wonderful lady. She was such a precious lady in all ways.Everyone of you are very fortunate to have this special lady in your lives. I pray that you all will have peace and wonderful lifetime memories of Evelyn. She now has a new body and walking the streets of gold with the lord and saviour! Heavens doors opened wide. I met this Christian lady back years ago, she was quite an inspiration to me, I will always remember her. I pray that everyone of you will have the peace and comfort that you need to go through each and every day. Always REMEMBER: She is now your angel always watching, guiding and protecting you.    My thoughts and prayers are with each and everyone of you.

Alan,

I am so sorry for the loss of your Grandma Evelyn. I know she has always mean't the world to you. And that you were always very special to her too. She was such a wonderful lady involved in your up bringing. She taught you so much in life and about life. I am so happy that she got to see you and Christina get married and has gotten to see your 2 precious baby boys. I know she was so,so happy to see that you are such a wonderful husband and daddy. Just always remember she has a new body now and is in heaven forever and always. She will always be your ANGEL continuing to watch,guide and protect you and your family each and everyday.Just have COMFORT in knowing that you are very lucky to have such a precious, wonderful and caring grandma in your life. Have PEACE (she doesn't have no more sickness and worries like we do) Your life must go on now--you have family that needs you to take care of them like grandma took care of you.I know you will miss her bunches, but always remember too that she loved you so very much. Continue taking care of your precious family and I will see you sometime at grandma Maria's.
