Back Send condolences to the Byrd Family
Gary W. Byrd, Sr. 66, of East View went home to be with the Lord on Saturday August 22, 2009 at United Hospital Center. He was born March 29, 1943 in Glenn Falls a son of the late Opal O. Byrd and Sylvia McNemar Byrd.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Frances Jenkins Byrd whom he married on May 30, 1961
He is also survived by five children, Cathy Riley and her husband Chuck of Anmoore, Gary William Byrd, Jr. and his wife Robin of Clarksburg, Bryan Byrd and his wife Crystal of Good Hope, Jonette D. Byrd and William Rebrook of Gore, and Michael Byrd and his wife Betty of East View; nine grandchildren, Tony Riley, Lee Ann Riley, Gary Riley, Amanda Riley, Samantha Riley, D.J. Byrd, Aaron Byrd, Brandon Byrd and Seth Rebrook; ten great-grandchildren, Makias Riley, Kordell Riley, Jaden Riley, Andy Barr, Caleb Byrd, Brody Byrd, Abigail Byrd, Bryce Byrd, Chloe Byrd and Hunter Byrd; two sisters, George Ann Hines and Judy Fogg; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Byrd and Dale Byrd; four sisters, Juanita Cole, Loretta Byrd, Shirley Campbell and Patty Swiger.
Mr. Byrd worked for the City of Clarksburg and he was a heavy equipment mechanic for WV Tractor and Equipment, where he retired. Gary was a member of the Way of Holiness Church in Buckhannon where he was a deacon. He loved hunting and fishing, the LA Lakers, Mountaineer sports, and Nascar. Most importantly he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Way of Holiness Church Rt. 33 Buckhannon, on Tuesday August 25 from 2 – 8 pm, where funeral services will be held at the church on Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at 1:00 pm with Reverend Jerry Murrell, presiding. Interment will follow in Stonewall Park Cemetery, Stonewood.
