Avis Ramona Hays, 75, of Indiana Avenue, Nutter Fort, passed away Thursday morning, August 20, 2009, in the United Hospital Center.  She was born on July 24, 1934, in Wendall, Taylor County, a daughter of the late Donovan Clay and Avis Estelle Smallridge Poole. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Lovant R. Hays, on July 24, 1998. 

She is survived by her son, Mark Hays, Nutter Fort; two sisters, Ruth Ann Davis, Fairmont, and Demaris Kindergan, Ormond Beach, FL; three brothers, Donald Rockwell, Medford, NH; Randall Poole, Cleveland; and Michael Poole, Spotsylvania, VA; and several loving nieces, nephews and cousins. 

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Keener and Deborah Guisinger, and a brother, Ralph Poole. 

Ramona was a hairdresser for over 33 years, and for 21 of those years she was the owner and operator of “Ramona’s”.  She was a member of Vincent Memorial United Methodist Church, and was active in the Women’s Society, Mountaineer Singles, and Christian Woman’s Club.  She was a member of Order of Eastern Star since 1960, and was a Past Worthy Matron.  She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, reading, and camping at Twin Lakes.   

Friends may call at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Sunday from 12 – 8 pm, and on Monday from 12 – 8 pm.  The Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a service Monday evening at 7 pm in the funeral home.  Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at 11 am with Reverend Samuel A. Cale, III, presiding.  Interment will follow in Bridgeport Cemetery.
