Stella May Sturms Barberio, 89, of Bridgeport, passed away on Friday morning, August 7, 2009, in United Hospital Center.  She was born in Belington on July 4, 1920, a daughter of the late John Perry and Mary Elizabeth Steerman Sturms. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, John James Barberio, II, on December 22, 2001. 

She is survived by her son, John James Barberio, III, and his wife Tammy; and a grandson, John James Barberio, IV, all of Bridgeport; and many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Frank Sturms, Ralph Sturms, Thomas (Almond) Sturms, and Wilbur (Banny) Sturms; and two sisters, Cora Armstrong and Opal Posey. 

Stella was a monitor technician in the Coronary Care Unit at St. Mary’s and United Hospital Center, where she retired in 1994 after 22 years of service.  She loved that she was able to see her grandson grow up and was instrumental in raising him.  She loved to cook and bake, and loved jewelry.  She enjoyed visiting with her family and friends and talking on the phone.  She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Stonewood. 

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Sunday from 2-8 pm, where a Funeral Liturgy Outside A Mass will be held on Monday, August 10, 2009, at 10 am with Sister Maria Joseph Corbett, CSJ, presiding.  Interment will follow in Bridgeport Cemetery.
