Back Send condolences to the Snider Family
Thelma Jessie Rowan Snider, 88, formerly of Crooked Run Road, Clarksburg, passed away Thursday morning, August 6, 2009, in United Hospital Center. She was born in Clarksburg on October 22, 1920, a daughter of the late Artie B. Rowan Sr. and Maria Taylor Rowan.
She is survived by her son-in-law, Richard L. Sargent, Point Pleasant; two grandchildren, W. Abraham Sargent, Detroit, MI; and Sarah E. Casto and her husband Jerry, Point Pleasant; two great-grandchildren, Destiny & Charity Casto, Point Pleasant; and a sister, Mariah C. Steffen, Clarksburg. She is also survived by her ‘adopted’ grandchildren Justina, Rebekah, and Rachel Sargent, the children of her son-in-law Richard and his wife, Judy, all of whom called her “grandma” and who loved her immensely, and by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Waverly Lou Snider Sargent; two sisters, Leona C. “Sis” Bates and Deloras Davis; and four brothers, Artie B. Rowan, Jr., Joseph H. Rowan, and Howard Rex Rowan, and one who died in infancy.
Thelma was the manager of the furniture department of Swigers Hardware in Adamston and had worked at GC Murphy Co. She was a member of Hepzibah Baptist Church, and enjoyed gardening and raising and caring for animals.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Monday from 2 – 4 & 6 -8 pm, where services will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at 11 am with Reverend Rodney McClung and Dr. Richard Sargent presiding. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Masonic Cemetery.
