Back Send condolences to the Gerrard Family
Richard Gerrard, 78, of Crooked Run Road, Clarksburg, passed away Sunday evening August 2, 2009, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born in Clarksburg on December 27, 1930, a son of the late Owen Jackson and Hattie Leota Duvall Gerrard.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Gerrard.
Also surviving are three sons, Richard Neal Gerrard and his wife Kristina Irene, Akron, OH, Robert Owen Gerrard and his wife Trina LaVaughn Gerrard, Clarksburg; and Donald Gene Myers, Jr., and his wife Regina, Fairmont; two daughters, Julia Kay Furbee, Clarksburg; and Belinda Lou Nuzum and her husband Brooks Edward II, Fairmont; 13 grandchildren, Richard Neal Gerrard, Jr., and his wife Amanda Rae, Fairmont; Ashley LaVaughn Gerrard, Benjamin Owen Gerrard, and Jamie Lea Furbee, all of Clarksburg; Caitlin Mary Gerrard, Eric Nathan Gerrard, Timothy Allen Smith, II, and Zachary Taylor Smith, all of Ohio; Robert “Louie” Mabin, Dominique “Nikki” Nuzum, Brooklyn Skye Nuzum, Blair Jordan Brooks Nuzum, and Donald Gene Myers, III, all of Fairmont. A brother, Jackson Gerrard and his wife Pauline, Clarksburg; a sister, Joan Leota Gerrard-Layfield, Clarksburg, and several nieces and nephews complete his family.
Richard was a graduate of Victory High School, and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a tire salesman at B.F. Goodrich, G & W Tire Company, and Alker Tire & Supply. He owned and operated R.L. Gerrard Trucking and Dick’s Truck & Tire Service. He was a member of American Legion Post 68, Bridgeport.
He loved his grandchildren. Attending custom truck shows were his passion, and loved dump trucks and attending car shows.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Wednesday from 2 – 8 pm, and on Thursday from 9:00 AM to 12 Noon. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 12 noon with Reverend Bob Barker presiding. Interment will follow in WV National Cemetery, Pruntytown.
