Back        Send condolences to the Stark Family

Harold Dewane Stark, 81, of Mannington, went to be with the Lord Saturday morning, August 1, 2009, at Monongalia General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.   He was born September 19, 1927, in Wallace, a son of the late Paul and Thelma Davisson Stark.

In August 1946, he married Helen Ruth Murphy Stark, who preceded him in death on May 4, 2008.

He is survived by his daughter, Dianna Wolfe and her husband Everett, Mannington; a son-in-law, John Fordyce, Farmington; 5 grandchildren, Marci Rennie, Stacy Wolfe, Joshua Wolfe, John Fordyce, and Harold Fordyce; and 3 great-grandchildren, Elissa Rennie, and Austyn and Ezra Mayo; and many nieces and nephews who loved him.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Fordyce, and his brother, Jackie Stark.

Harold was a graduate of Bristol High School, attended Salem College, and served in the US Navy during World War II.  He was employed with South Penn and Pennzoil Oil and Gas Company.  Upon moving to Mannington in 1965, he became foreman of the utility and gas division for Pennzoil.

 After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling and camping with his family, where he would always make them laugh with his stories and songs.  He enjoyed his morning coffee with the men at Mannington McDonalds.  He was a faithful attendee of the Merrifield Memorial Wesleyan Methodist Church.

 The family would like to give special thanks to Chyrl and Gary Drummond for the love and care they provided Harold during his illness.

 Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Monday from 2 – 8 pm, where services will be held Tuesday afternoon, August 4, 2009, at 1 pm with Reverend Ron Yoder presiding.  Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.

Thu, Aug 20, 2009

Dianna, Everett and families;

We are so sorry for the loss of Mr. Stark, he was such a nice gentleman and a joy to spend time with. We can find comfort in the belief he is now with his beloved Helen. Dianna; you had such great parents, how blessed you are. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. Bill had surgery Monday or we’d have been there.

Tue, Aug 04, 2009 Harold was working in the Wolf Summit office the day I went for my interview for employment.  I was hired and worked with Harold for many years at the Wolf Summit office and after the office moved to Bristol, WV.    He was a very, very nice person and I always enjoyed working with him.  He always made me laugh with his tales and funny poetry.  He was a fine person.
