Back            Send condolences to the Quagliotti Family

Ann B. Zekan Quagliotti, 83, of Stout Street, Bridgeport, passed away Thursday morning, July 9, 2009, in the United Hospital Center. She was born June 30, 1926, in Brownton, WV, the youngest daughter of the late Helen and Steve Zekan.

She was preceded in death on December 25, 2008, by her husband of 59 years, John Aldo "Al" Quagliotti, Sr., whom she married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brownton in 1949.

Surviving are four children, Al Quagliotti, Jr., and his wife Jackie, Pittsburgh, PA; Greg Quagliotti and his wife Marilyn, Fairfax Station, VA; Mark Quagliotti, Chesapeake, VA; and Monica Nordstrand and her husband Joe, Houston, TX; three grandchildren, Melissa Gervinski and her husband Jason, Altoona, PA; and Leif and Cyrus Nordstrand, Houston, TX;  great-grandson Benjamin Gervinski, Altoona, PA; two sister-in-laws, Verna Zekan, Charleston, and Catherine Calvi, Morgantown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. John Zekan, and her sister, Mary Zekan Ellis.

Ann graduated as valedictorian of her class from Philippi High School in 1944.  She worked in the Brownton Post Office and attended business classes.  Ann remained in her childhood home even after her marriage to Al to care for her father and later to raise her children.  Ann was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brownton, and later All Saints Catholic Church in Bridgeport.

In 2004, she and Al moved to Bridgeport where she was closer to her extended family of many friends.  Ann never knew a stranger and was remarkable in her ability to make all those around her feel as if they were life-long friends.  She genuinely loved all her friends and treasured every moment of her time visiting and talking with them and sharing in their life events.

Ann enjoyed many happy retirement years with Al as they traveled near and far to visit family and friends, attended Mountaineer football games, and were genuinely an inseparable couple who enjoyed their life together.

Ann's dedication and pride in her family was unrivalled.  She spent her lifetime in care of them and was always proud to share their life's events and accomplishments with anyone willing to listen or enjoy her many photos.  Her life's example of charity, faith, enjoyment of life and kindness to others will be treasured by all those whose lives she touched.  Her quick wit and lively spirit will be missed by many, none more so than those who loved her most.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers tributes in her honor be made to the All Saints Catholic Church Building Fund, 317 E. Main Street, Bridgeport, WV 26330

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Friday from 2 – 8 p.m.  The Vigil Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2009, at 11 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church with Father Harry Cramer and Father Hilarion V. Cann as Celebrants.  Entombment will be in Holy Cross Mausoleum.

Al, I read online that both your mom and dad had recently passed away. I was sorry to hear about it, but it seems they both had full lives. It’s been a couple hundred years since I called your house from the Pittsburgh airport and spoke with Jackie (about 1976 I think). I hope you all are doing well.

I just read that Chuck Carspecken had passed away last March in Colorado – a good fella. The last Delt I ran across was Luther in a restaurant in Charleston. That was about ten years ago. No, it was Randy Humphrey at a high school reunion in 2000. Time flies.

Anyway, give my best to Jackie – if you get this message. Maybe our paths will cross again. Steve Johnson

P.S. I learned a few years ago that I am 1/64th Italian, so take care paisanos!
