To the Sauerwein Family:                                                                                                Unfortuantely, I cannot be in West Virgina to pay my respects in person, but please accept my heartfelt condolences on the tragic and sudden passing of Carolyn.   Carolyn was probably the sweetest and most genuine person that I knew in high school.  We were actually roomates at WI band camp the summer before our sophomore year and I only have happy memories of her.  I remember running into her in Clarksburg a few years after college when I was in town visiting and we began to exchange Christmas cards for a few years, but then lost touch...I wish we had not. Carolyn was truly a kind and giving soul who will be missed.  Again, please accept my heartfelt condolences.                                            Angela Gonsorcik  Alexandria, VA

Dear members of the Sauerwein family,

In such times, words cannot be enough to heal your pain. I am truly sorry for your loss. Carolyn's death is a loss to not only her family and friends, but to the world. Her kindness, thoughtfulness, sweetness, intelligence, and compassion have touched many lives. Her kind spirit will go forth in the hearts of all those who knew her. I will forever remember and cherish our friendship. I will remember her laugh and beautiful smile. I will remember our silly teenage girl years, learning/maturing college years, and becoming an adult years with fondness. I have so many wonderful memories of Carolyn. I know how much she loved her family. Family and friends were extremely
important to her.
I pray for your peace. I hope she knows from above that she will continue to be loved and missed. She will remain in my heart forever. If there is anything I can do, please let me know. I am sorry that I could not get back to West Virginia today. It saddens me that I could not be there. Please know that I am thinking of you daily.
Peace and Love,
Christene (Stackpole) Hodges

Karl, please accept my sincere sympathy on the death of your daughter, Carolyn.  When the first news of this came out I was sure she must have been the daughter of the friend from Benoni Avenue in Fairmont.  I was in school with your late wife, and remember you well as the ball passing friend of my brother Donnie West.  Donnie moved back to WV from Washington state a few years ago, but sadly died five years ago from cancer. Many years have passed since then, and I just wanted you to know old friends are thinking of you and remembering you in their prayers.  Sincerely, the youngest of the West kids from Benoni,  Patty West Snider

Karl, Chris and the rest of the Sauerwein that I did not have the pleasure of meeting, I wish to send my condolences. I grew up with Carolyn (and Chris) just a few houses down the street. I remember her walking the halls of WIHS while I was there. I was highly shocked over the news, and had to pause and remember the fun times. Halloween. Chris and I playing our music too loud in his room so it would annoy her. Sitting on Karl’s porch with my mother, Chris and Carolyn talking about whatever came up. The world lost one today. She will be missed by all that came in contact with her, no matter how brief. I know I do. Again, my condolences,         Robin Scott Smith                                       LCDR Robin S.
