Back Send condolences to the Garrett Family

Martha Jane Garrett, 81, of Briercliff Road, Bridgeport, passed away Monday evening, June 1, 2009, at Ruby Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born in Clarksburg on June 29, 1927, a daughter of the late Arlie and Ida Allen McKinney.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, George A. Garrett, who passed away January 8, 2005.
Jane is survived by two daughters, Christine Hickman and her husband Rick of Bridgeport and Patricia Law of Bridgeport; two grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Greenman and her husband Martin of Bridgeport, and their son Simon; Juliane Christine Van Norman and her husband Louis of Clarksburg, and their two sons Bryan and Drew; her grandchildren by marriage, Corey Hickman and his wife Susan of Clarksburg, and their three children Haylee, Jarrett and Emma; Lori Audia and her husband Mike of Clarksburg, and their five children, Kaitlyn, Ashley, Lakin, Sydney and Roman; and Shay Adkins and her husband Tim of Elkview, and their sons Noah and Jericho.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Timothy Law; three brothers, Walter, Paul and Richard; and one sister, Lorraine Fultz.
Jane worked as a book keeper at Melets and also at Meadow Gold Dairy. She was a graduate of Bristol High School and an active member of Simpson Creek Baptist Church. She also served as a volunteer at United Hospital Center in medical records and Shepherd’s Corner. Jane was a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, painting, yard work and flower gardening and especially loved her cat “Misti.”
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport from on Thursday, June 4, 2009, from 12 noon – 1 pm, where a celebration of Jane’s life will be held at 1 pm with Reverend James Lang and Dr. C. Michael Hopkins presiding. Interment will be held at a later date in Bridgeport Cemetery.
