Back Send condolences to the Richards Family
Marjorie Zoe Sommerville Richards, 84, of Bridgeport passed away on Saturday May 2, 2009 at United Hospital Center. She was born on June 13, 1924, in Good Hope, a daughter of the Charles Edward Sommerville and Odna Lee Miller Sommerville.
She is survived by one son, Jeffrey L. Richards and his wife Barbara of Bridgeport; one daughter, Linda Jo Frank and Alan of Bridgeport; four grandchildren, Shari Smiers and her husband Dave of Fairmont, Tisha Estep and her husband Leon of Clarksburg, Scott Richards and his wife Cindy of New Jersey, Neil Heldreth and his wife Amber of Clarksburg; six great-grandchildren, Shana and Whitney Carpenter, Mia Zoe Estep, Allyson Richards, Blake Estep and Jeffrey Richards; several nieces and nephews.
She was married for 59 years to Alfred O. Richards who passed away on June 22, 2001, whom she married on August 1, 1942
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn Sommerville and Laine Sommerville; one sister Elizabeth Wyant White.
Mrs. Richards was Methodist by faith, last attending Johnson Avenue UMC and her greatest joy was taking care of her family. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who dedicated her life to taking care of others, and loved all of us unconditionally, often providing people with a safe haven of comfort. She was a Christian to the truest sense of the word. She also loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, traveling, and playing cards and entertaining in her home.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Monday from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6 – 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, with Pastor Ben Guido presiding. Interment will follow in West Virginia National Cemetery, Pruntytown.
