Freeman Kendall Buxton, 77, of Bridgeport passed away on Monday April 13, 2009 at United Hospital Center.  He was born June 26, 1931 in Montpelier, VT a son of the late Kenneth Buxton and Anita Loita Buxton. 

He is survived by his wife Patsy Buxton whom he married on February 9, 1963. 

He is also survived by one daughter, Jennifer Lohman and her husband David of Salem; two brothers, Ronnie Buxton and his wife, Milly of Jericho, VT, and Brooks Buxton of Jericho, VT; one sister Carlynn Farr and her husband Bill of Burlington, VT. 

Mr. Buxton was a Veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Korean War.  After serving his country, he attended the University of Maine and then completed his BS from the University of Vermont.  He also completed his Master’s Degree from Cornell University.   Mr. Buxton worked as an Economist with the Department of Agriculture where he retired after 37 years of service.  He was an avid hiker and spent a portion of his time hiking the Appalachian Trail.   He was also a member of the Mount Mansfield Lodge #26 F.&A.M of Jericho, VT for 50 years and also a 38 year Free membership to:  Sterling, VA Lodge #268, having helped start the Lodge as Senior Warden then served as Master from February 1971. 

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at 2:00 PM at the West Virginia National Cemetery where military honors will be accorded. Interment will follow in West Virginia National Cemetery.
