Back Send condolences to the Reed Family
Ruth Loretta Reed, 79, of Hall Street, Bridgeport, passed away Sunday morning, March 29, 2009, in the United Hospital Center. She was born on April 1, 1929, in Martins Ferry, OH, a daughter of the late Arthur Lyle Preston and Pearl Mae McCauley Preston Knight.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jerome Allan Reed, Sr., whom she married February 13, 1947.
Also surviving are nine children, Jerome A. Reed, Jr. and his wife Adamae, Fayetteville, NC; Marguerite L. Sprouse, Clarksburg; Shirley Diane Whitehair and her husband Delmous, Buck Run; John Thomas Reed and his wife Trella, Corbin Branch; Glenda Mae Mitchell, Bridgeport; Stephen Reed, Sr., and his wife Barbara, Bridgeport; Robert A. Reed and his wife Brenda, Mannington; William R. Reed and his wife Marina, Corbin Branch; and Kenneth E. Reed and his wife Barbara, Bridgeport; 22 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a brother, John Preston, Clarksburg.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two infant brothers, Paul and Roy Preston.
Ruth greatly enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She had attended and was active at Evangel Baptist Church and Bridgeport Baptist Church before her illness. She also enjoyed reading her Bible, gardening, and doing jigsaw puzzles.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm and on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2009, at 11 am with Reverend Thomas P. Horne presiding.
Interment will follow in Bridgeport Cemetery.
