Howard Woodford Hathaway, Sr., 90, of Meadowbrook, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 4, 2009, in the United Hospital Center.  He was born in Anmoore on January 7, 1919, a son of the late Alan and Elizabeth Williams Hathaway.

 He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Margaret J. Hathaway, on February 19, 2008.

 He is survived by two sons, Howard W. Hathaway, Jr., and his fiancée Betty L. Peek of Punta Gorda, FL, and Brian A. Hathaway, at home; four daughters, Cynthia Davis of Martinsburg; Kimberly Marcozzi and husband Steve of Lawrenceburg, KY; Margaret Langley and husband Reverend Jay Langley of Cranberry Township, PA; and Trina Hathaway, Meadowbrook; 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Hathaway, Anmoore; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Mouser, Anmoore; and several nieces and nephews.

 In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Linda Allawatt Hathaway; two sisters, Virginia Martin and Lois Preston; and a brother, James Hathaway.

 Howard served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed at Ft. Amador, Panama as a Radio Operator.  He was employed at Mathewsons & Hegler Zinc Plant, Spelter, for 36 years, and then worked at Compton Coal Company for 12 years.  He was a member of the UMWA, the American Legion, and VFW.

 Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Sunday from 4 – 8 pm, where services will be held on Monday, March 9, 2009, at 11 am with Reverend Sam Cale IV presiding.  Entombment will follow in Everlasting Life Mausoleum, Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, and Military Funeral Honors will be accorded by the Lewis County Honor Guard and WV Army National Guard Honor Guard, Camp Dawson.
