Pastor Herbert Charles Morgan, 78, of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Friday, February 27, 2009, at the Heritage Nursing Home after an extended illness.

 He was born June 1, 1930, in Little Rock, Arkansas, a son of the late Wilson and Zenobia Miller Morgan.

 Herbert is survived by his wife Ardyce; daughters, Carole Haper and her husband Stan, Dayton, Ohio; Nanci Morgan, Mannington; Glenda Krantz, Blackshear, Georgia; and Sherri Morgan, Laurel, Maryland; a son, Randall Morgan and his wife Suzanne, Charleston, South Carolina; nine grandchildren, Matthew Michaelis (Julie), Spokane, Washington; Jenifer Foote (Joe), Spokane, Washington; Julie Bair, Dayton, Ohio; Todd Bair, Cincinnati, Ohio; Anthony Pasquale, Dayton, Ohio; Zachary Krantz, Blackshear, Georgia; Garrett and Dillon Morgan, Charleston, South Carolina; Philip Garrison, Laurel, Maryland; five great-grandchildren, RosAlyne, Paige, and Hudson Foote; Jaden and Kaitlyn Michaelis; numerous nieces, nephews, an extended church family that has been so supportive, and many special friends and family.

 He was preceded in death by three brothers, Master Sgt. Benjamin Morgan, Pastor Hubert Morgan, and Clarence Morgan; and two sisters, Mary Ellen Boatwright and Gennette Morgan.

 He graduated from Ozark Academy, Gentry, Arkansas, and attended Union College, Lincoln, Nebraska and the University of Maryland, College Park.  He was a member of the Grafton Seventh-day Adventist Church.

 He was an ordained minister of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and served as the pastor of churches in Parkersburg, Charleston, Clarksburg, Grafton, Fairmont, Buckhannon, and Morgantown.  After retirement he served as Director of Disaster Relief Services for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in West Virginia and traveled extensively overseas.  His active pastoral career of service spanned over 50 years with caring for people and the good news of the Christian gospel always at the center of his ministry.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 4 – 8 pm on Monday, where the funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at 10 am with Pastor Randall Murphy officiating, assisted by Pastors Rick Cutright and James Volpe.  Interment will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery.
