Gerald R. Hornor, 91, of Bridgeport, passed away Tuesday evening, February 17, 2009, at the WV Veterans Nursing Facility following an extended illness.  He was born in Clarksburg on July 31, 1917, a son of the late Robert Sidney and Sally M. Thompson Hornor.

 He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline V. Day  Hornor, in April 1989.

 He is survived by two sons, Gerald L. Hornor and his wife Carolyn, Largo, FL; and Ronald E. Hornor and his wife Patti, Bridgeport; five grandchildren, Bobby Hornor, Neal Hornor, Jodi Santiago; and Ritchie Hornor, all of Elkart, Indiana; and Ronnie Hornor, Flemington; and nine great-grandchildren, Josh, Aaron, Mykel, Avery, Casey, Rylee, Brook, and Brandon, all of Elkart, Indiana; and Keaton, of Flemington.

 In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elma Underwood.

 Gerald was a graduate of Bridgeport High School and WV Junior College.  He served in the US Army during World War II.  After he was discharged from the service, he was a surveyor and draftsman for Hornor Engineering, and then was a surveyor and draftsman for Dola Mines and North American Coal, retiring in 1982.

 He enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting arrowheads and American Indian memorabilia, and was a ham radio operator.  He was proud of the fact that he built a 1957 T-bird from scratch, which his grandson has and still participates in car shows with.  He was Baptist.

 Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Monday evening from 6 – 8 pm, where services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, with Reverend Thomas P. Horne presiding.  Interment will follow in Bridgeport Cemetery.
