Back Send condolences to the Hickman Family

Richard Lee Hickman, Sr., 82, of Hoffman Avenue, Clarksburg, and formerly of Spelter, passed away Friday morning, February 13, 2009, at his residence. He was born in Clarksburg on November 24, 1926, a son of the late Fred B. and Dora Bell Palmer Hickman.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, A. Virginia Meadows Hickman, whom he married September 12, 1947.
Also surviving are their three children, Cora Sue Lamb and her husband John, Hepzibah; Richard Lee “Rick” Hickman, Jr., and his wife Christy, Bridgeport; and Dora Marie Dodd, Clarksburg; 10 grandchildren, Corey F. Hickman, Stacie M. Coffey; Aaron B. Dodd; Christopher Dodd; David P. Lamb; Lori A. Audia; Jennifer Greenman; J. Brock Dodd; L. Shay Adkins; and Julie VanNorman; and 22 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Alva Letus Hickman.
Richard was a graduate of Victory High School and the WV Business College, and he served in the US Navy during World War II. He worked at M & H Zinc Company, Spelter, for 25 years, and retired from Consolidated Coal Company Robinson Run Mine # 95 in 1992 after 19 years of service.
After retirement, he and Virginia lived in Florida for 14 years, returning to WV four years ago to be with their family. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and bowler. He loved his family and loved to tell jokes.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10 – 11 am on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at the Bridgeport United Methodist Church, where a celebration of life service will be held at 11 am with Reverend Dale Waters presiding.
