Back        Send condolences to the Swiger Family

Angela (Anky) Rose DeLapa Swiger, 81, of Clarksburg, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday evening, February 9, 2009, following a brief illness.  She was born in Clarksburg on February 26, 1927, the beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine Carvell DeLapa.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Clarence Jackson “Jack” Swiger.

She also leaves behind five sisters, Isabel Marie Golden and her husband Robert, Sun City, FL; Jean Fernandez, Summerfield, FL; Paula Julian and her husband Tony, Springboro, OH; Anne Pinti, Bridgeport; and Josephine “Josie” Clevenger and her husband Jim Elwart, Toledo, OH; two brothers, James DeLapa and his wife Judy, Grand Rapids, MI; and John DeLapa and his wife Kaye, Las Vegas, NV; brothers and sisters-in-law of her husband, Charlene Stadin, Denny Swiger, and George and Alice Swiger of Clarksburg.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including her namesake Kristin “Angela” Krall, New York City, NY, and her husband Jack’s namesake “Jackie” Pinti Koval, Morgantown.  She also has five great-great-nephews.  It was with great regret that she had one miscarriage and was not granted any living children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a one-year old brother, James I DeLapa; a twelve-year old sister, Mary Rose DeLapa; her father and mother-in-law, Aubry Levi and Ada Swiger; her sister-in-law, Thelma Swiger; and brothers-in-law Benny Pinti and Bill Clevenger.

Her extended family members considered her their “other mother” as she showered them all with gifts and cards that expressed her great love for them.  Her penmanship was a work of art and was cherished by those that she corresponded with.

Angela was employed by Southern Pine Lumber Company where she served as office manager.  After several years of marriage Angela chose to travel to numerous areas around the country along with her husband in his work as a pipeline welder.  She was the love of his life and enjoyed being an expert housewife, great cook, skilled artisan and a capable pianist.  Her husband and many family and friends proudly wore the clothes she tailor-made for them.  She also made beautiful afghans and other items using her knitting and crocheting skills.

On Sunday, she suffered a heart attack and a miracle brought her back for a short respite. Members of her family were there to surround her with love.  Angela knew each by name and held their hands with tender love.  She remarked to them that, “the Pinti tribe is all here.”  When the nurse came in and asked how many children she had, she replied, “Seven,” as she claimed all the Pinti children as her own.  It was a moment to remember.

Mrs. Swiger was a long time member of the Simpson Creek Baptist Church, where she held high regard for her Pastor Mike Hopkins and the congregation who made her feel so at home.

Contributions in memory of Angela can be made to Simpson Creek Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 231 W. Philadelphia Avenue, Bridgeport, WV 26330
