Back Send condolences to the Ashcraft Family
Edward Lee Ashcraft, 79, of Pennsylvania Avenue, Bridgeport, passed away Saturday morning, February 7, 2009, at his residence under the care of People’s Hospice. He was born in Clarksburg on November 26, 1929, a son of the late Bernard and Nellie Helmick Ashcraft.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Ann Alton Ashcraft, on May 12, 1986.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Lou Sullivan Ashcraft; his son, James Edward Ashcraft, Clarksburg; his daughter, Debra Ann Ashcraft, Bridgeport; 3 step-daughters, Rhonda D. Chase and her husband Ernest, Fairmont; Terri L. Perris and her husband Gregg, Stonewood; and Amy L. Dovala and her husband Michael, Charles Town, WV; 10 grandchildren, Amie Ashcraft; Daniel Small; Keith Small; Christopher Chase; Amanda Chase; Shelley Chase; Lauren Chase; Brett Chase; Morgan M. Dovala; and Mason A. Dovala.
Eddie graduated from Victory High School in 1947 and had attended Salem College. He proudly served in the US Army as a Corporal during the Korean War from 1951 - 1953. He worked at Parr Lumber from 1947 – 1955; Sunshine Bisquit Company from 1955- 1960; and retired as a window tech from the US Postal Service in 1995 after 35 years of service. After retirement until last year, he worked as a courtesy driver for Chenoweth Ford. He was a member of Clarksburg VFW Post 573, Bridgeport American Legion Post 68, and the Elks.
Eddie and Wanda enjoyed traveling all over West Virginia, Ohio, and Maryland, and even had fun getting lost at times. He loved all animals and feeding the deer in his back yard.

Graveside services will be held at 1 pm on Monday, February 9, 2009, at the Bridgeport Cemetery with Reverend Robert Wilson presiding.
