John Thomas Alexander, 72, of Worthington Drive, Bridgeport, passed away Wednesday morning, February 4, 2009, in the United Hospital Center.  He was born December 26, 1936, in Lonaconing, MD, the only son of the late Thomas Albert and Suzanna Donald Alexander.

 He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lois True Alexander, whom he married September 6, 1958, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Century, WV.

 In addition to his wife, he is survived by 4 daughters, Kimberly Lynne Alexander-Kinkelaar; Karen Leslie Alexander; and Kathryn Lea Alexander-Plummer, all of Bridgeport; and Katrina Alexander Llaneza and her husband Mark, The Woodlands, TX; three granddaughters, Marissa Dawn Kinkelaar, Megan Renee’ Kinkelaar, and Mary Elizabeth Kinkelaar; two grandsons, John Korey Lawson and Brandon Page Lawson, all of Bridgeport.  Five sisters, Mary V. Mills, Bridgeport; Janice A. Spradlin, Texas; Delores “Jo” Sturm and her husband Jack, Bridgeport; Glenda J. “Jeanne” Cole and her husband Richard, Bridgeport; and Suzanne R. Buckhannon, Clarksburg; and several nieces and nephews complete his family.

 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Amelia V. and William P. True.

 John retired as cable maintenance supervisor from Bell Atlantic in 1991 after 37 years of service, where he continued to work as a subcontractor supervisor after his retirement. He was a graduate of Bridgeport High School, Class of 1955, and played on the football team which won the state championship in 1955, and he was a devout Steelers and WVU Mountaineer fan.  He was very proud of the fact that his granddaughter, Megan Kinkelaar, was WVU’s 2008 Homecoming Queen.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm, where Catholic Burial Rites will be held on Saturday morning, February 7, 2009, at 10 am with Father Casey B. Mahone presiding.  Interment will follow in Bridgeport Cemetery.
