Charles E. Cottrill, Jr.

Charles E. Cottrill, Jr., 75, of Meridian, Mississippi, passed away Monday, December 22, 2008, at Rush Specialty Hospital. 

 He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Avis Cottrill; two sons, Norman Cottrill and his wife Karen, Scott Depot; and Ernie Cottrill and his wife Jenny, Collinsville, MS; three daughters, Shirley E. Alford and her husband Howard, Progress, MS; Peggy J. Wilson and her husband Alan, Austin, TX; and Christina J. Slayton and husband Van; Collinsville, MS; 12 grandchildren, Casey, Andrew, Sela, Matt and his wife Lee, Josh, Nicki and her husband Clay, Kelly, Connor, Emily, Lucas, Dalton, and Lindsey; and two great-grandchildren, Savannah and Thomas.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, Charley and Edna Cottrill.

 Mr. Cottrill was a graduate of R-W High School and Salem College, and received his Masters Degree from Mississippi State University.  He retired from Lockheed Georgia in 1990 as an Engineer with 25 years of service.  He was a veteran on the US Navy, and was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason.  For 25 years, his passion was coaching young athletes in the Meridian area in baseball and football.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

 Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Sunday evening from 4 – 7 pm, where services will be held on Monday morning, December 29, 2008, at 10 am with Reverend George Bramble presiding.  Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
