 Paul "Pap" Lafferty

Paul “Pap” Lafferty, 78, of Rt. 1, Mt. Clare, passed away Wednesday morning, December 3, 2008, in the United Hospital Center.  He was born on April 27, 1930, in Clarksburg, the oldest child of the late Ralph “Ike” Mounds and Kathleen Stafford Lafferty. 

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Pat Rogers Lafferty, whom he married on August 22, 1951.

Also surviving are their three children, Jim Lafferty and his wife Karen, Timberland Trails, Barbour County; Colleen Fox and her husband Rod, Falls Run Road; and Chris and Kristi Lafferty, Stout’s Run; eight grandchildren, Kelly Thomas and her husband Greg, Bridgeport; Jaime Rexroad and her husband Brandon, Adamston; and Mandy Lafferty, PA; Brandon Fox and his wife Suzie, Lebanon, OH; Jerrod Fox and his wife Lene, Monroe, OH; Jon Fox, Falls Run Road; Mason Compton, Barbour County; and Noah Lafferty, Stout’s Run; and a great-granddaughter, Maria Anne Fox, Monroe, OH.  Two sisters, Mary Jane Marsh and her husband Marvin, Stout’s Run; Myrna “Babe” Jones and her husband Bud, Bolt, WV; and several nieces and nephews, complete his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene Lafferty, who died in infancy; and Bud Lafferty.

Paul was a graduate of R-W High School, Class of 1948, and he served in the US Army during the Korean War.  He did his internship as a Machinist with Hinkle Brothers, where he worked for 11 years, and he retired from UCAR in 1995 with over 30 years of service.  He was a member of Quiet Dell United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed camping, especially at Summersville Lake, hunting, fishing, and riding his four-wheeler.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2008, from 1 – 2 pm at the Quiet Dell United Methodist Church, where a Celebration of Paul’s Life will be held at 2 pm with Reverend George Bramble presiding.
