John W. Graham
John W. Graham, 88, of Millbrook Road, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 30, 2008, in the United Hospital Center. He was born on February 10, 1920, in Brave, PA, a son of the late John and Eva Harker Graham.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Addie Graham; his daughter, Susan Graham, Lost Creek; and his son, John W. Graham, Jr., and his wife Gayle, Logan, OH; his grandson, John W. Graham, III, Kentucky; and his granddaughter, Susan Hobson, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hattie Robinson Graham in 1967. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by three brothers, Joe, Glen, and Vernon Graham; and three sisters, Ruby Baughman; Velma Cox, and Rhelda McCollum.
John and his wife Hattie were radio personalities known as “Little John and Cherokee Sue”, where their shows were on WWVA Wheeling, WMMN Fairmont, and WPDX Clarksburg for many years. In 1967, he started and operated Graham Plumbing, retiring in 1984.
He served in Europe in the Army during World War II. He was a member of Oakmound Evangelical Church, loved to play the guitar and mandolin, and enjoyed football, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a 32nd degree Mason in the Scottish Rite and a member in Herman Lodge #6, AF & AM, Clarksburg.
The family would like to give special thanks to his caregivers, Alana, Sue, and Dixie, who helped so much and were so good to him.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Tuesday from 4 – 8 pm. On Wednesday, December 3, 2008, John will lie in state at Oakmound Evangelical Church from 10 – 11 am, where services will be held at 11 am with Dr. Bob Phillips presiding. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
