William C. "Bob" Chapman
William C. “Bob” Chapman, 82, of Broadway Avenue, Bridgeport, and a former long-time resident of Salem, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2008. He was born September 4, 1926, in Salem, a son of the late William C. Chapman, Sr. and Nora Ethel Davis Chapman.
Bob is survived by one son, William “Greg” Chapman and his wife Roberta of Bridgeport; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all who lovingly called him “Pappaw”, Brian Chapman of Manassas Park, VA; and Julie Stanley and her husband Travis, of Nokesville, VA and their children, Jeremy, Kendal, Maddie, and T.J. Stanley of Nokesville, VA; a daughter-in-law Eleanor Chapman Hoskinson of Manassas Park, and his beloved dog Molly.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Neva Sheets Chapman in 2000; a son, Russell L. Chapman, and a grandson, Stephen G. Chapman.
Bob graduated from Salem High School. He then served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He formerly worked at Adamston Flat Glass and and owned a grocery store in Salem. Bob also was a home and auto insurance agent for State Auto Insurance. He retired from the former Empire National Bank at Salem as Comptroller.
He attended Emmanuel Baptist Church and enjoyed following stock option trading on the computer.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport from 2 – 4 and 6 -8 pm Monday November 10, 2008. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:00 am with Pastor Joseph Riggs presiding. Interment will follow at Bridgeport Cemetery.
