Lucienne A. Martin

Lucienne Angele Lefort Martin, 94, of Nutter Fort, passed away Saturday evening, November 1, 2008, in the United Hospital Center.  She was born on November 8, 1913, in Jumet-Charleroi, Belgium, a daughter of the late Lucien and Isidoria Jean Court Lefort. 

On January 12, 1935, she married Auguste J. Martin, who preceded her in death on May 23, 2004.

She is survived by two sons, John Pierre Martin, Clarksburg; and Michael S. Kearns and his wife Luci, Wheeling; 2 grandchildren, John M. Martin and his wife Jennifer, Clarksburg; and Karie D. Abston, Clarksburg; 9 great-grandchildren, Melissa, Justin and Kristin Kearns; Savannah, Noah, and Nealah Martin;  Anthony and Kristopher Abston; and Peyton Smith; and a great-great-grandson, Dylan Sfakis.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Denise M. Kearns; a daughter-in-law, Merry D. Martin; a half-sister, Gabrille Lefort; and two half-brothers, Jean and Roger Lefort.

Lucienne was a Deaconess of the First Baptist Church of Nutter Fort for over 44 years, and was active in the ABW Mission Society and Sunday School.  She was an honorary member of the Belgium-American Society.

She loved to work with her roses around the house.  She loved to fish and  spend time at her cabin with her husband and son at Teter Lake, and was known by everyone at the lake as “Grandma”.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm.  Lucienne will lie in state at the First Baptist Church of Nutter Fort on Wednesday, November 5, 2008, from 10 -11 am, where services will be held at 11 am with Reverend Donald Fowler presiding.  Interment will follow in Greenlawn Masonic Cemetery.
