Orville Ray Echard, Sr.
Orville Ray Echard, Sr., 79, of Lodgeville Road, Bridgeport, passed away Sunday morning, October 26, 2008. He was born July 8, 1929 in Summit Park, Clarksburg, a son of the late Noah Isaiah and Cleo Markley Echard.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta B. Echard, on August 9, 2000.
He is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Orville Ray and Natula Rose Echard Jr of Jamestown, NY; Roy Allan and Rebecca Gay Echard, Sr.; William Morgan and Sandra Lee Echard Sr.; Robert David and Holly Richards Echard, Sr.; Patrick Douglas and Kimberly Bush Echard, Sr. all of Lodgeville Road, Bridgeport; two daughters and sons-in-law Carolyn Elaine and Ricky Lee Gibson of Bridgeport; Vickie Jan and Michael Guy Bland of Lost Creek; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Playford Lee Echard of Upshur County; several nieces and nephews who love and will miss him very much and his companion and buddy Vera Moore.
In addition to his parents and wife, Orville was preceded in death by six great-grandchildren, six brothers and sisters, Noah Isaiah Echard, Jr., Edith Kelley, Rose Scheuvront, William Echard, David Echard, and Carol Echard.
Orville retired from Stuart-McMunn Company as an Operating Engineer after 42 years of service.
Orville greatly enjoyed playing the trumpet and keyboards and was active with several music activities including the Sagebrush Roundup, the Country Music Association of WV, and the Fairmont Senior Citizens Song Bird and holiday shows at area nursing homes. He was a member of the West Milford Senior Citizens and helped out at the family restaurant Sandy Dandy’s Fine Family Dining.
He was a member of the Stonewall United Methodist Church in Stonewood and until recently was very active with the church youth groups.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport, from 2 to 8 pm Wednesday, where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday October 30, 2008 with Pastors Larry and Ann Crawford presiding. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park
