Back Send condolences to the Payton Family

Joy Elaine Chicarell Payton, 77, of Johnstown Road, went to meet her Heavenly Father on Friday morning, October 17, 2008, at her residence following an extended illness. She was born in Clarksburg on April 24, 1931, a daughter of the late Frank C. and Ora Mae Harbert Chicarell.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Richard “Dick” E. Payton, on August 10, 2003. They were united in marriage on October 24, 1951.
She is survived by two daughters, Robin Ward and her husband Quilly of Johnstown Road; and Erin Guzzi and her husband Frank of Lost Creek; 3 grandchildren, Brandi Guzzi Runion and her husband Pete of Bridgeport, Franki Jo Guzzi of Clarksburg, and Richard Guzzi of Lost Creek; two great-grandchildren, Mackenzi Payton Matheny and Jack Connor Runion and two step-great-grandchildren, Blair Runion and Devin Runion. She is also survived by two sisters, Ruth Thomas and her husband Doug of Deland, FL and Betty L. Wright of Clarksburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Joy was the youngest of 14 children. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters.
Joy was an active member of Simpson Creek Baptist Church where she taught the New Horizon Sunday School Class for several years. She was a graduate of R-W High School.
A celebration of Joy’s life will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 11:00 am at Simpson Creek Baptist Church, 231 W. Philadelphia Ave., Bridgeport with Dr. C. Michael Hopkins presiding.
