Staff Sergeant Michael L. Shreves
Staff Sergeant Michael L. “Mick” Shreves, 61, of Fayetteville, NC, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2008, at his residence. He was born June 27, 1947, in Baltimore, MD, a son of the late Leroy “Buck” and Daurine Farley Shreves.
He was brought to West Virginia as a young child to be raised by his Aunt Agnes “Aunt Aggie” Shreves Oldaker in the Park View section of Clarksburg. He loved and owed his success to her.
Mick is survived by a daughter, Linda Marie Schrall of Munich, Germany; one sister, Nancy Oldaker and her husband Joseph of Sardis; and five nieces and nephews, Vanessa Apportadera and her husband Ray of Washington, DC; Karla Jo Tucker and her husband Gary of Bridgeport; Darrin Oldaker and his wife Crissy of Bridgeport; Eric Oldaker serving at Fort Knox, KY; and Lori Sue Oldaker of Bridgeport; Cousins, Doris Fragman, Bridgeport; Lloyd Waller, Clarksburg; Karen Corley, Blackstone, VA; and Linda Gregan, Buckhannon.
Mick went to East View Grade School and Broadway Jr. High. After graduating from R-W High School in 1965, Mick joined the US Army where he spent the next 30 years as a decorated Green Beret and as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. Whatever his assignment was, he took it on proudly and served with pride in the US Army.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport, from 2 – 8 pm Monday, where services will be held at 11 am Tuesday. Interment will follow in the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown, where full military honors will be accorded. Reverend Ron Brown will precide.
