Fern Lee Rogers Simon
Fern Lee Rogers Simon, 89, of Rosemont passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2008 following a brief illness. She was born November 4, 1918 in Glen Carbon, IL, a daughter of the late James Garfield Rogers and Edith Fern Russell Rogers.
She is survived by one son, James Simon and his wife Susan Jane of Garland, TX; one daughter, Mary Frances Morris and her husband Dr. Lawrence Morris of Kingsport, TN; a daughter-in-law, Lima Jo Simon of Rosemont; one grandson, Albert L. Simon of Huntington; three grand-daughters, Wendy A. Morris, Manassas, VA, Janice Claytor, Knoxville, TN and Stacey Morris, Knoxville, TN; three great-grandchildren, Linden Fern Claytor, Weston Claytor, and Alexis Lyons-Morris.
In addition to her parents, Fern was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Richard Simon whom she married December 15, 1939; her son, Stephen Franklin Simon and her sister, Frances Faye Cosner.
Fern moved to West Virginia in 1934 and graduated from Flemington High School in 1936 as the valedictorian. She worked for the Flemington Telephone Company for 5 years as an operator. She then attended the Clarksburg Business College. After college she worked for Meadow Gold Dairy as an executive secretary for 15 years.
Fern was very active in the Bailey Memorial United Methodist Church. She currently was the pianist and a Sunday school teacher. She previously was choir director, lay leader, financial secretary and Vacation Bible School Director.
She was a member of the United Methodist Women where she served as treasurer for 30 years. She also was a member of the Bailey Memorial United Methodist Quilters.
Fern was a member and past president of the Flemington Senior Citizens and belonged to the Rosemont CEOS.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport, from 1 to 9 pm on Friday, July 18, 2008. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Bailey Memorial United Methodist Church in Rosemont at 1:00 pm on Saturday where Fern will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at the IOOF Cemetery in Rosemont.
