Janet A. Andrew Greathouse Hess
Janet A. Andrew Greathouse Hess, 72, of Worthington Drive, Bridgeport, passed away Wednesday morning, June 11, 2008. She was born in Buckhannon on September 25, 1935, a daughter of the late William Glen and Lavene Smith Andrew.
She is survived by a son, Brad Greathouse and his wife Karla of West Milford; a daughter Sharon Ann Ward and her husband Roger of West Milford; two brothers, Robert Andrew and his wife Delores of Bridgeport and David Andrew and his wife Judy of Bridgeport. Fourteen grandchildren including Bradley Greathouse and his wife Tammy, Stephen Greathouse and his wife Arienne, Kari Greathouse, Andrea Lantz, Aaron Lantz, Gretchen Lantz, Madison Ward, Turner Ward, Brittney Ward, Meredith Ward, Caulen Ward, Kit Larson, Jeremiah “Jem” Larson and Bethany Miller; one great-grandson, Dylan Andrew Greathouse, and one great-granddaughter, Adyson Greatthouse, complete her family.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Gordon “Gordy” Hess, on August 18, 2006. They were united in marriage on August 21, 1971.
Janet was a graduate of Salem College and received her Masters Degree in Education from West Virginia University. She taught 1st and 4th grades for over 20 years at Bridgeport, Lumberport and Summit Park Elementary Schools.
She was a member of the Bridgeport Church of Christ. Her grandchildren were her hobby.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport, from 2 to 8 pm Sunday, where the funeral service will be held on Monday, June 16, 2008, at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown.
