Bessie L. Smith
Bessie Lavon Smith, 80, of Benedum Drive, Bridgeport, passed away Friday, May 23, 2008. She was born February 3, 1928, in Rock Camp, WV, a daughter of the late Henry Jones Bramer and Lexie Swiger Bramer.
She is survived by her husband, Laddie E. Smith, whom she married March 24, 1961.
Also surviving are two sons, Rodney Bramer and his wife Evelyn, Alexandria, VA; and Todd E. Smith and his wife Donna, Clarksburg; 2 grandchildren, Megan & Nicholas Smith, and a brother, Don Bramer and his wife Rose, Youngstown, OH.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, John, and Dick Bramer; and two sisters, Audrey Strother and Agnes Strother.
Bessie was a graduate of Victory High School, Class of 1946, and retired from Maidenform after 27 years of service as a seamstress. She was a member of the International Garment Workers Union, and enjoyed bowling and crossword puzzles.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm, where services will be held on Tuesday morning at 10 am with Reverend Thomas P. Horne presiding. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Masonic Cemetery.
