Merry Delores Martin

Merry Delores Martin, 71, of Stanley Avenue, Clarksburg, passed away Sunday morning, February 24, 2008, in Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Nursing Home.  She was born on May 26, 1936, in Eufaula, Alabama, a daughter of the late Theodore and Alice Metheny Boothe.

She is survived by her husband, John P. Martin, whom she married February 17, 1984.

Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Kay Subeh and her husband Ronald; a son, Douglas Griffith; and her granddaughter, Gabrielle Jordan Subeh, all of Norfolk, VA; a sister, Patricia Petrik, Cape Windsor, DE; a brother, Charles “Mickey” Boothe, Eufaula, AL; her mother-in-law, Lucienne A. Martin, Nutter Fort; a step-son, John M. Martin and his wife Jennifer, Clarksburg; a step-daughter, Karie Abston, Clarksburg; step-granddaughter Savannah Martin; and step-grandsons Noah Martin; Anthony Abston; Kristopher Abston; and Peyton Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Stephen M. Griffith, on July 20, 2006; a sister, Alice Faye Selsbee; a brother, Theodore B. Boothe; and her father-in-law, Auguste Martin.

Merry graduated from Eufaula High School and the University of Maryland, and had worked in the Pathology Department in Baltimore, MD.  She had also worked at Sheetz in Philippi. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Nutter Fort for many years.  She enjoyed playing Bingo at Village Square and Belington Fire Department, work in her yard, and fish and camp with her husband at Teter Lake and in Colorado. She loved to read books and do all kinds of needlework.

Friends may call at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm.  Merry will lie in state at the First Baptist Church of Nutter Fort, 219 Maryland Avenue, Nutter Fort, on Tuesday from 10-11 am, where services will be held at 11 am with Reverend Don Fowler presiding.  Honoring Merry’s request, she will be cremated following the service.
