Raymond W. Federer
Raymond W. Federer, 79, of Bristol, passed away Wednesday morning, January 30, 2008, in the VA Medical Center. He was born on November 8, 1928, in Champaign, IL, the only child of the late Karl W. and Mabel M. Post Federer.
He is survived by his wife, Sally Darnall Federer, whom he married March 12, 1983.
Also surviving are his stepdaughters, Kathleen Smallridge and her husband Rodney, Bridgeport; Rebecca Luther and her husband Hal, Bridgeport; Jennifer Stillings and her husband Mike, Fountain, FL; and Margaret Pinti and her husband Kevin, Lusby, MD; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Federer, and her son William.
Ray retired from the US Navy after serving over 22 years, including two tours in Vietnam. He was raised in Wyoming, served in the Pacific, lived in California, and moved to Harrison County in 1972, where he loved living on his farm. He was a 32nd Degree Member of the Masonic Lodge, joining in the Philippines, and was Baptist.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center for the care provided to Ray during his illness.
Friends may call at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Monday from 1 – 2 p.m., where a Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. with Reverend Jeff Perine presiding.
