John R. Woodson

John R. Woodson, 61, of Nitro, and formerly of Lost Creek, passed away Thursday morning, December 20, 2007, in Thomas Memorial Hospital.  He was born in Clarksburg on February 11, 1946, a son of the late Claude Everett and Cleo Rice Woodson.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 20 years, Dremia L. Marvin Woodson, on June 28, 1997.

He is survived by three children, Andrew J. Bramer Woodson and his wife Kim, Groveland, FL; Jonathan M. Woodson and his wife Marci, St. Albans; and Brittney Nicole Woodson, Nitro; 4 grandchildren, Harley Woodson, Nitro; Michael Medlin, Groveland, FL; Tristen and Weslee Woodson, St. Albans. Four brothers, Jim Woodson and his wife Dot, Warsaw, Ohio; William Woodson and his wife Lorena, Anmoore; Richard Woodson and his wife Jane, Odessa, TX; and Kenneth Woodson and his wife Terry, Clarksburg; and several nieces and nephews complete his family.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Claude “Junior” Woodson; Dale “Jack” Woodson; and David Woodson.

John received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Industrial Arts from Fairmont State.  He was a substitute teacher in Harrison County, then taught at the WV Rehabilitation Center.  He was very active in Scouting, including serving as a Scout Master for over 20 years, and was a volunteer firefighter with Anmoore Fire Department for over 35 years.  He served in the US Army and enjoyed woodworking.

Friends may call at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Saturday from 6 – 8 p.m., where services will be held on Sunday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Harley Jeffries presiding.  Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Anmoore.
