Louis L. Martino

Louis L. Martino, 83, died Monday, December 10, 2007, at the VA Medical Center in Clarksburg where he had been a patient for 4 ½ months. He was born September 3, 1925 in Clarksburg the son of Leonard and Sara Martino.  

He was married for 61 years to Ginger Martino who died in June 2007.

He is survived by three daughters, Pamela Martino of Clarksburg; Lois Childers and her husband Jeffrey of Clarksburg; and Nancy Lloyd and her husband Richard of Winchester, VA; two beloved grandchildren, Sara and Brent Lloyd, who brought him great joy; one sister, Brenda Jo Amos of Wichita Falls, TX; and one brother, Dr. Robert Martino of Chicago, IL. 

When he was 18 years old he traveled by train to Tempe, AZ, to study engineering at Arizona State University. Two years later he returned to West Virginia and continued school at Glenville State and eventually to West Virginia University where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.

Louis was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy.

Professionally he was in sales most of his life, and he traveled world-wide with Burning-Bar, Inc. and the steel industry. In later years he is best remembered as a greeter at Ryan’s Restaurant and Applebees where he always played Santa Claus at Christmas. He loved to make people laugh, especially children.  Louis was a member of the Elks Club, American Legion and the Bridgeport United Methodist Church. He loved to read and was a World War II buff. He also loved films and movies, especially Westerns.

He was a man who traveled to the beat of a different drummer.

A celebration of his life will be held at Bridgeport United Methodist Church at a later date.
