Howard J. Weekley
Howard J. “June” Weekley, 87, of Ritter Street, Bridgeport, passed away Saturday evening, December 8, 2007, at his residence. He was born in Clarksburg on October 29, 1920, a son of the late Lonnie M. and Mable (McKeown) Weekley.
He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 63 years, Clara Kathleen Golden Weekley, on May 19, 2007. They were married on November 27, 1944.
He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn K. Newlon Cole and her husband Ray, Bridgeport, WV and Canton, OH; his son, John Howard Weekley and his wife Jill of Martinsburg, WV; six grandchildren, Deanna Newlon Sinn and her husband Jonathon of Kent, OH, Stacey Newlon Dean and her husband George; Janice A. Newlon and Kathy E. Newlon, all of Canton, OH; Danielle B. Parke and her husband Brian of Ashburn, VA; and John H. Weekley, II, Eagle View, CO; and eight great-grandchildren, Samantha, Amanda and Jessica Sinn, Elyssa and Madison Dean, Jackson William Newlon, and Cole and Izabell Loue.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Helen J. Mayfield; Ruth Vannoy; and Eleanor J. Cain; and two brothers, Harold R. and James D. Weekley.
June was proud to have served during World War II in the US Navy for 4 years. He retired as a pattern maker for Anchor-Hocking and Hazel-Atlas with over 39 years of service. He was a member of Simpson Creek Baptist Church and Late Lodge No. 63, A.F. & A.M. Bridgeport, where he served as a Worshipful Master. He also served as Past Patron for Order of Eastern Star for 7 terms.
June was an accomplished woodworker, building homes, and beautiful cabinetry and furniture. He and Kathleen enjoyed square dancing and traveling, and he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was always ready to help other people and was a very good cook, welcoming them to his home with a nice warm meal. He was a pillar who will be missed by his family and friends.
The family would like to thank the Visiting Angels for their assistance, especially Kelley, for the care they have provided to Kathleen and June.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Tuesday from 2-8 p.m., where services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Dr. C. Michael Hopkins presiding. Interment will follow in Bridgeport Cemetery. Late Lodge No. 63 will meet at the Masonic Lodge in Bridgeport on Wednesday at 10 a.m. for the purpose of conducting graveside rites for Mr. Weekley.
