Susetta "Susie" Taylor Syslo
Susetta “Susie” Taylor Syslo, age 88, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2007. She was born September 13, 1919 in Webster Springs, a daughter of the late Amos Burton Taylor and Annie Bell Adamy Taylor.
Susie was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony M. “Tony” Syslo on June 21, 2002. They were united in marriage on December 6, 1937.
Susie is survived by two sons, Joseph M. Syslo and his wife Delta Ann of Mt. Clare and Anthony Syslo and his wife Linda of Salem; four daughters, Josephine Hanning and her husband Joseph, Sr. of Boothsville, Julia Schindler and her husband Tom of Clarksburg, Mary Ann Hanning and her husband Donald of Fairmont, and Cecilia Hanning and her husband Clyde of Boothsville; 18 grandchildren, Sherwood Wotring, Eric Knight, Anthony and Kevin M. Syslo, Glen R. Hanning, Cindy L. Lipscomb, John L. Hanning, Joseph R. Hanning, Jr., Sandra L. Hanning, Clinton P. Hanning, Kenneth C. Schindler, Tony Schindler, Bernard Schindler, Annette Webb; Jeannette Hartman, Jamie Schindler, Jr., Madonna Marie Hanning, Mark William Hanning, ; 21 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by one brother, Roy A. Taylor and his wife Madeline of Farmington; four sisters, Gatha Matthews of Hepzibah, Audrey Rabenold of Lost Creek, Mary Ellen Benner of Allentown, PA, and Martha Ann Stout and her husband Bud of Galloway; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Susie was preceded in death by two brothers, Goy Arley Taylor and Hoy Burton Taylor; and two sisters, Alice Syslo and Opal Romano.
Susie was a cook at All Saints Catholic Grade School for several years and had over 22 years service at Hills Department Store in Bridgeport.
She loved cooking for her family, gardening and collecting porcelain dolls.
Susie was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Stonewood and belonged to the Perpetual Help Daughters and the Better-Than-Ever Gang.
Friends and family will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport on Thursday, November 22, 2007 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and on Friday from 9:00 to 8:00 PM. A Vigil Service will be held at the funeral home at 3:00 PM Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church at 10:00 AM Saturday with Reverend John Ledford as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
