Nicholas F. Gigliotti (1918-2007)
Nicholas Francis Gigliotti, 89 of Lafayette St., Broadway edition, Clarksburg, passed away late Wednesday evening, October 3, 2007 at his residence following an extended illness. He was in the presence of his family and under the care of People’s Hospice.
He was born August 10, 1918 in Buffalo, NY, a son of the late Joseph and Sophia Sgango Gigliotti.
His wife of nearly 45 years, Catherine Gerasco Gigliotti whom he married September 15, 1951, preceded him in death on September 8, 1996.
Nick is survived by his three children, Gloria Jean Armstrong of Clarksburg, Sophia Ann McNemar of the Meadland Community near Bridgeport and Joseph Gregory Gigliotti of Clarksburg; five grandchildren, Kimberly Ann Delay (who was also one of his caregivers) and her husband Cameron of Bridgeport, Earl Thomas Armstrong, Jr. of Clarksburg, Nicole Michelle Henderson and her husband Brian of Clarksburg, Stephanie Rachelle Claypool and her husband Donald Ray Claypool, II of Clarksburg, and Christopher Michael McNemar and his wife Andrea of Morgantown; nine great-grandchildren including Colton Scott Randolph, Ashleigh Ann Delay, Kali Brooke Delay, Bailey Nicholas Stire, Brian Elliott Henderson, III, Peyton Alexander Henderson, Mackenzie Nicole Henderson, Isaac Todd Claypool and Gage Thomas Claypool; several nieces and nephews; his caregiver, Tiffany Pumphrey and his faithful canine companion, Nikki.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Fordeley, Rose Scardina, Stella Ayoob and Constance Corcoglioniti, two brothers, Anthony Gigliotti and Joseph Gigliotti, making him the last surviving member of his immediate family; and one son-in-law, Steven McNemar.
Nick retired after 37 years from Eagle Convex Glass Company. While there, he was a glass bender and later served in the maintenance department.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the United States Air Force in the 485th Bomb Group from Smoky Hill Army Air Field in Salina, Kansas and the 4000th Army Air Force Base Unit from Wright Field in Dayton, OH from September of 1942 through May of 1947. He was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Sons of Italy.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Saturday, October 6, 2007 and from 12:00 Noon – 8:00 PM on Sunday, October 7, 2007. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 PM Sunday evening in the funeral home to conclude the evening visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Clarksburg with Reverend Charles E. McGinnis, Jr. as Celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Clarksburg, where Full Military Honors will be accorded at the graveside by members of the Lewis County and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Honor Guards.
