Maude S. Spaur (1916-2007)
Maude S. Spaur, 90 of Johnson Ave., Bridgeport, passed away late Monday evening, August 20, 2007 at the Country Living Personal Care Home in Jane Lew. She was born November 4, 1916 in Lewis County, WV, a daughter of the late William Hugh and Sylvia Rexrode Steerman.
Her husband of nearly 66 years, Tracey Dalton Spaur, survives her.
Additionally, she is survived by three sisters, Ilene Pickens of Rock Cave, WV, Nora Douglas of Amhurst, PA and Jeraldine Wolf of Mt. Vernon, OH; and five brothers and their spouses including Warren Steerman and his wife Elsie of Harrington, DE, Kenneth Steerman and his wife Betty of Minford, OH, Max Steerman and his wife Harriet of Sylmar, CA, Eugene Steerman and his wife Mary of Lake Station, IN and Tom Steerman and his wife Georgia of Dover, DE. Several nieces and nephews complete the family.
In addition to her parents, she as preceded in death by four brothers, Oscar Steerman, Leonard Steerman, Rex Steerman and Wilmer Steerman; and two sisters Evelyn Hinzman and Delphia Reger.
Maude graduated from Walkersville High School and received her nurse’s training from St. Mary’s School of Nursing. She retired as the plant nurse from Union Carbide after many years of service.
She attended the Bridgeport United Methodist Church and loved spending time with her family. She always looked forward to hosting family reunions on her family farm on Brushy Fork Rd.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport from 5:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, August 24, 2007. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday in the funeral home with Reverend Steven E. Dorsey presiding. Family and friends will gather at 12:00 Noon Saturday at the McCutcheon Chapel Cemetery near Walkersville, WV, where the graveside committal service will be held.
